Are there any creative workarounds to get the browser to play audio on an inactive mobile device?

I built a gamified Pomodoro/Todo web app on React, and realized near the finishing stages of production that the audio won't fire if the phone isn't active (I know, rookie mistake). I searched here and confirmed what I feared to be true.

So I'm wondering if there's a workaround. I noticed that audio will play on browsers once my phone closes when I listen to certain podcasts. Are they using a workaround or is there something I'm missing? Perhaps could the browser get the phone to use its own timer to send off a notification when the timer goes off? I know this isn't a nuts and bolts code question, but I'm really looking for a solution. My goal was to make this app stand out and actually have people use it instead of it being another one of those Pomodoro portfolio projects. This limitation sort of makes it just that.
