How to interact with the computer through an android application? [on hold]

August 26, 2019, at 10:00 AM

Hello everyone and thanks for the help.

I am developing a simple application for an Android device, which contains two buttons, a Play button and another Stop button.

What I have to do is that at the moment of pressing the Play button from my cell phone, a video that is on the computer is executed, that is, it would work as "remote control" and similarly it should work with the Stop button. The way to make the interaction between the computer and the android application is where I find myself lost, whether there is any framework, api, plugin or something that allows me to do this. Or maybe I should create a desktop application that would work as a server?

I am new developing applications, and I can't find a solution to the problem I am having.

I must clarify that the application I am developing in Android Studio.

Any help, or any guide you can give me, would help me a lot since I'm lost and I have no idea how to develop it. Thank you

I guess you want to make something like "remote control", right?
If so, there are some pieces of advice:

  1. Write your own desktop application(like you say, as a server) and Android App(client), and make them able to communicate with each other via WiFi/BlueTooth/Internet... In this way, you can do anything you want on the desktop from your phone.

  2. To use the platform built-in remote services API, such as Wtsapi32 on Windows. In this way, you can just do things that API allows.

If you choose method 1, you may need to know socket programming or publish-subscribe-based messaging technologies such as MQTT.
If you choose method 2, you should know native programming.

Is there a way to programmatically pin an application to my Android tablet with adb? If not, is there another way to do this remotely without having to access the tablet?
