Android debug build fetches updates from CodePush Production deployment and not Staging

Android debug build needs to fetch updates from Staging environment, instead it fetches from Production (I think)

I have a react-native app I want to test before pushing it to Production. To do so, I used Code-Push to push an app build to the Staging environment and then I built an app-debug.apk and installed it on my Android phone.

First time after installing the apk, it works fine and the required updates are present. After I close and restart the app, the required changes aren't there as it has reverted to an older version.

I pushed to the code-push staging environment using:

code-push release-react <APP_NAME> android

To build the app-debug.apk I followed the following steps:

react-native bundle --dev false --platform android --entry-file index.js --bundle-output ./android/app/build/intermediates/assets/debug/index.android.bundle --assets-dest ./android/app/build/intermediates/res/merged/debug
cd android
./gradlew assembleDebug

I used the apk in android⁩/⁨app⁩/⁨build⁩/⁨outputs⁩/apk⁩/⁨debug⁩

I need the changes to be retained even after the app is restarted.

Thanks
